GEORGE Nsimbe is looking forward with relish to the Confederation Cup tie he hoped for after his KCC FC side was paired with Nigerian outfit Bayelsa United yesterday.

On Wednesday, Nsimbe stressed he would be happy if his side avoided North African opposition. Confederation of African Football didn’t disappoint.

All that KCC needs to make the money-spinning soccer stage is negotiate their way past the West Africans. “This is a good draw. We are sure of playing football. There are often problems encountered in West Africa but that’s the best you can ask for at this stage,” Nsimbe stated.

Bayelsa are riding high in Nigeria, and are just six games away from winning their league. They are top of the 20-team league table with 63 points from 32 games. Second-placed Heartland is eight points adrift.

The Nigeria side steam rolled their way past Cameroon’s Aigle Royal 5-1 on aggregate to qualify for the third round. They had lost 1-0 away in the first leg.

A Cameroon official Emmanuel Pipona thought then, that Bayelsa used the referee to win. “They are a good club, but I wonder why they need to use the referee to win. They are very prepared, but why?” Pipona wondered.

KCC are pursuing the signature of Simba SC coach Sam Ssimbwa for next season, adds Fred Kateregga The development means KCC are unlikely to stick with want-away Nsimbe.

According to sources, KCC official Patrick Isiagi is willing to fund Ssimbwa’s stay at the club, but the issue has divided the executive. “Ssimbwa’s skills are not doubtable. He is Germany-trained and a national coach material. Nsimbe can be his assistant,” said one official. Ssimbwa is a former player and coach at the Lugogo side.

Nsimbe’s undoing, according to detractors, is divulging club matters to the press. “One of my officials informed me about it (the Ssimbwa pursuit). That is all I can say now,” said club head Godfrey Kisekka.

Meanwhile, KCC has asked SDCA to intervene in their wrangles with the FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa. In a letter to SDCA secretary Kavuma Kabenge, club secretary Richard Omongole accused Mulindwa of calling KCC officials ‘thieves’.
