Girls urged to stay pure
SAUDI ARABIA – The top cleric has called on all Saudi girls to remain chaste in the face of liberal forces bent on Westernising their lifestyles. Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul-Aziz Al al-Sheikh condemned liberal teachers at universities, internet and mobile phones as vehicles that break the moral code. Saudi’s special force, the “Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice†enforces gender segregation in most of the Gulf Arab country, home to Islam’s holiest sites.
Homosexual parade banned
RUSSIA - Moscow has banned a gay parade planned to coincide with its hosting of the Eurovision Song Contest because it will “destroy morals†in the capital. Gay rights activists have staged small unsanctioned parades in Moscow without government approval over the past few years, albeit with arrests and severe beatings by anti-gay and neo-fascist groups. Moscow’s spokesman said any attempt to hold an unsanctioned gay parade would be “toughly stopped by law enforcement agencies in accordance with the lawâ€.
Dead body kept for six years
US - A Florida woman was arrested for keeping her dead mother’s body in a bedroom for six years while collecting more than $200,000 (sh446m) in pension benefits. Penelope Sharon Jordan, 61, was charged with Social Security fraud and theft. Police found the decaying body on a bed in a spare bedroom at the mother’s home. An autopsy found no signs of foul play.
