SPAIN-BASED Ugandan rapper Caesar Sta knows how to put the hottest music on the streets. His debut album, Miami, sums up what hip-hop music is all about.

Like most successful hip-hop artistes, Caesar gives his music that kind of street credibility on which the foundation of this genre of music was laid. Miami is an acronym for Money Is A Major Issue.

The 12-track album was put together with the Ugandan music audience firmly in mind. ‘The young prince of tha east’, as the budding rapper refers to himself, is signed to Soundscapes Inc., an international record label in Barcelona, Spain.

MIAMI opens with I Will Never Leave You, a smooth-flowing, mid-tempo song that ushers you into his collection. It is typically street rap. Caesar tries to strengthen the song’s appeal by incorporating in a Luganda verse.

Most of the songs on this album are potential dancehall hits, sure to get anybody on their feet, regardless of one’s attitude towards hip hop. Bounce Bounce, Dance All Nite, Touch Down, Can’t Get Over You and Step Yo Game Up stand out.

However, although Touchdown, Dance All Nite and Step Yo Game Up are favourites according to fans’ comments posted on Ceasar’s website, Can’t Get Over You seems better destined for Kampala’s airwaves when Ceasar jets into town at the end of this month.

Not only is this song more radio-oriented, it is deeper in lyrical content, and in it, Ceasar is most spirited.

Hamma, which leans so much toward reggeaton, comes across as a surprise package on this CD.

This is the kind of song that will certainly get even those who hate hip-hop tapping a leg, even without as much as getting to know what the song is all about.

Caesar, who hails from Entebbe, will shoot the video of Hamma in Kampala soon.
