STAKEHOLDERS in the fight against child abuse and neglect should collaborate if their objectives are to be realised, an activist has advised.

“There is need for cooperation among non-government organisations, local leaders and government departments if we are to achieve our goals,” said Benon Rwanguha, the Jinja district community development officer.

He told a workshop on orphans and other vulnerable children at Zamo Hotel in Jinja that uncoordinated interventions were undermining their efforts.

Rwanguha called for the invlovement of local politicians in protecting the vulnerable children.

The Bugiri community development officer, Stephen Magero, commended the Government for initiating the campaign to protect vulnerable children and cautioned implementers against misappropriating funds for the cause.

Magero said the Government had earmarked $12m (about sh21b) to run the programme this year, and $32m (about sh57b) for next year.
