MASINDI Academy in Masindi district is awash with posters announcing their readiness for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

In a mock CHOGM exercise recently, the school appointed students to represent President Yoweri Museveni, Queen Elizabeth II, Don McKinnon, the secretary-general and other dignitaries.

Sam Kakumba, a Senior Six student, was elected president, Catherine Asiimwe, the queen and Betty Kasumba the secretary-general.

Kakumba said he is happy to be the CHOGM host president. He said by hosting CHOGM, Uganda would get foreign exchange, find market for goods, promote international relations and boost tourism and other industries. As queen, Asiimwe said she would promote peace and security among the Commonwealth countries, while Kasumba said she would ensure that more students get to know about CHOGM through debates.

Students will soon march through Masindi town to create CHOGM awareness among the residents.

Teachers at the school commended The New Vision for the mock CHOGM exercise.
