CITY Beat Magazine and Club Beer have been throwing parties for artistes and their fans, but Iryn Namubiru’s at Club Pa-Lui last week had more spice. It was not only about Namubiru, but also Uganda’s champions, the Rugby Cranes, who recently won the Confederation of Africa Rugby cup. They were in a celebratory mood even before Namubiru appeared. There is something about beer and rugby. And the fast service of the Pa-Lui staff made this appear like a beer fest within the first two hours.

City Beat offers fans an opportunity to get up close and personal with artistes. Namubiru’s fans only left short of taking her to their homes. That is even after she had revealed that she finds Chelsea FC’s Didier Drogba very sexy. But that could have made the “ruggers” feel close to her, considering that many have a similar physique to Drogba.

But these were fans anxious for action and it did not take long before they requested Namubiru to “song us a sing” (Rugby speak). “Why are we waiting?” they chorused. She did not just sing. She performed with fervor. How could she not when everyone wanted a piece of her? And one who felt defeated asked about Namubiru’s sister, Yvette Seguya, who is also a musician.

The winners received T-shirts and caps from Club Beer and an autographed Iryn Namubiru CD. Among the fans, Hassan Nageeba deserved to win it all. She bought three magazines and filled in all the coupons for this party.
