COLLINS Njera made two tries as Kenya’s Mwamba outwitted MTN Heathens yesterday, to become the first foreign team to win the Hima Makerere International Rugby 10s tournament.

Mwamba captain Humphrey Kayange made a dummy run past two opponents to easily touch down midway the first half—silencing the partisan home crowd that braved the day-long downpour at Kyadondo grounds.

Early in the second half, Robert Seguya muscled his way and kicked a short pass to Ronnie Musoke, who made a try at the right-hand corner to level the score at 5-5. Njera put Mwamba ahead three minutes later before he sealed the game in the last minute.

Towering Kayange was delighted to break the Hima 10s jinx in the 14th edition of the tournament.

“We knew each other so well, having played in the same pool. It was a tough game but we did the right things at the right time,” Kayange remarked.

Mwamba won sh3m, while Heathens settled for sh1.5m. Heathens’ Seguya was named the tournament’s Most Valuable
Player (MVP).
