MWAMBA’s victory in the Hima Makerere International 10s restored Kenyan rugby pride that has been hit hard by the Ugandans this year. Uganda lifted the coveted Africa Cup recently, having beaten Kenya in the semi-finals.

At the weekend, Mwamba became the first foreign team to win the Hima 10s.
The pace exhibited by the Kenyans helped them punish Heathens for the few lapses in an exciting final. “We were technically better but they were quick. That’s where they caught us,” Heathens’ Robert Seguya, the tournament’s MVP, conceded on Sunday.

The 14th edition, considered the best ever, saw other local contenders ejected in dramatic fashion.

Tournament host Hima Impis lost the quarterfinal encounter to Nakuru by the toss of a coin, after extra-time ended in deadlock.
