AFTER several months of anticipation for dream houses, Nokia phones, airtime and other prizes from Celtel Uganda, the Win a House Karibu promotion came to a climax on Saturday in what partly looked like a house warming party for the last winner, Zainabu Lacor.

The Makerere Institute of Social Work student smiled the night away at Akright Kakungulu as she rubbed shoulders with Celtel’s staff including the MD, Yesse Oenga.

The massive response from the public, led management to extend the promotion by giving away two extra houses after the initial five had been won.

“The Karibu promotion is at the core of our promise to make life better and also a way of giving back to our customers,” Oenga said.

Lacor joined previous winners, James Lubwama, a mason from Nansana, Allan Ngwabe, a 21-year-old in Kabowa and William Kamoga, a Katwe spare parts trader.

Others were Ivan Muwonge, a 20-year-old Kikuubo businessman, Richard Adebo, chicken seller in Arua and Ephraim Mubangizi, a UPDF soldier from Moroto who took the sixth house.

Lacor was drawn from Bananuka Street in Mbarara in an electronically automated selection overseen by independent auditors; PriceWaterHouseCoopers.

The Stingerz dance group gyrated erotically and lit up the satellite village forcing masons working on neighbouring houses to join in the fun.

Stingerz “stung” Celtel staff by pulling them onto the stage to celebrate the promotion.

Lacor and a few relatives, who accompanied her, couldn’t hide the joy of having their own becoming a landlady while still a student!
