DICKSON Opendi kept debutants Gulu afloat, outclassing Ayub Katende (Mengo) with a flurry of punches in the national novices boxing championship at Lugogo yesterday. Katende got off to a spectacular start, but was on the receiving end in the last round.

Opendi’s victory kept Gulu’s Redeemed Boxing Club among the title contenders.
Army side UPDF still lead the contest ahead of Lukanga, KBC and Sakku.

Gulu, coached by Dragon Kidega, is also one of the clubs from upcountry that entered the competition along with teams from Mbale and Jinja.

The championship, that has drawn 222 boxers takes a break until Monday because Logogo indoor stadium is booked for other functions.
