Official jailed over hoes
MOROTO-The NAADS co-ordinator of Katikekile sub-county was recently arrested by the Police over the sale of 500 hoes. Paul Omunuk, also an agriculture extension worker, was arrested after security operatives impounded the hoes on a Teso coach bus destined for Soroti. The hoes from the office of the Prime Minister are meant to promote food security in the region. The district CID officer, Samuel Dowan, said: “He has confessed that he was responsible for the sale of the hoes.”

Pader gets FAO seeds
PADER-The Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) has distributed improved seeds to residents under a programme code-named ‘seeds for hope’. The seeds were got from the Food for the Hungry (FHO) Organisation with support from the European Union. Pius Okello Ongom, an FHO official, said the seeds were given to Internally Displaced Persons who were returning to their homes. “We gave seeds worth sh52m to 2,090 households,” Okello said.

Chief asks IDPs to return
PADER-The Acholi Paramount Chief, Rwot David Onen Acana II, has advised people in the internally displaced people’s camps to return to their land and embark on agriculture. He also appealed to the people to involve elders and cultural institutions in settling land disputes. Acana was speaking at the opening of Rackoko Guest House, in Awere sub-county recently. The guest house is the biggest grass-thatched house in the Acholi region
