AN opportunity where opposing politicians find themselves peacefully seated together is not a daily occurrence. But the martyrs day celebrations at Namugongo provided such a chance on Wednesday when leaders like the president Yoweri Museveni (NRM), Dr. Kiiza Besigye (FDC), Ssebaana Kizito (DP) Miria Obote (UPC) and Katikiro JB Walusimbi found themselves seated under the same tent. All are anglicans who chose to pray with Catholics.

When the time of the Catholic rite of wishing each other peace by shaking hands came, MP Beatrice Anywar, who was nick named Maama Mabira for her role in the save Mabira demonstration in April 2007, walked boldly to Museveni and wished him peace. The two shook hands amid cheers from the crowd.

The crowd then urged Besigye to do the same, but he just laughed it off.
