THE Nkumba Marines have looked significantly better this year than last.
Later this evening the extent of their improvement will undergo a critical test from the Falcons.

The two MTN-FUBA league men’s top division sides face off at the YMCA courts with the record six-time champions, Falcons, on a run of five straight wins. The Marines are also still buoyant from their impressive form that saw them beat rivals KIU and the UCU Canons.

The two victories suggested that Timothy Odeke’s Marines have the potential to qualify for the playoffs although the coach is not getting carried away yet.

“It’s still too early to call,” Odeke cautioned.

“You know the way that teams are playing right now you may not know what will happen in the second round. You’ll be shocked what might happen in the second round.”

The race for the playoffs, if not the fourth playoff ticket, looks open after the considerable demise of the Canons. A number of sides, including the Marines, fancy their chances of grabbing that slot but Odeke maintains there is still along way to go.

Kyambogo Warriors, champions DMark Power and Falcons already look well placed for three playoff slots.

Steven Omony’s Falcons are favourites to win today’s match given the ease with which they have gone about their business.

However, Odeke is hopeful. He said: “There is all possibility. There shouldn’t be any reason why we can’t beat them.”
