Orphans get health unit
KAMPALA - Naguru Reception Centre has got a new sh120m building, which will house a health unit. Its construction was funded by different NGOs in a campaign rolled out by the Rotary Club of Kololo. The centre, which was established with the help of Save the Children Fund in the early 1960s, is the only public children’s centre in Kampala. It accommodates orphans and abandoned children. The centre has about 94 children, according to its head, Christine Kajumba. “The number keeps growing every year,” she said. An official from the gender ministry said the centre was initially created to handle 30 children. The club also re-roofed the buildings at the centre, constructed water tanks, and revamped the compound. The projects officer, Charles Turyamureeba, said more projects would be started to help needy children.

120 students confirmed

KAMPALA - A total of 120 students of St.Lawrence schools and colleges have received the sacrament of confirmation. The confirmation service was held at the Horizon Campus recently. The main celebrant was the Bishop of Namirembe Diocese, Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira. Luwalira urged those confirmed to grow strong in their faith. “The creed you have just taken will stand against you if you turn against God,” he said. He urged parents to discourage vices like corruption, homosexuality and prostitution among their children. “Be a good example to your children in word and deed,” Luwalira advised the parents.
