A total of 138 beneficiaries of government pool houses face eviction following the withdrawal of the offer. The pool houses sales committee revoked the offers after the beneficiaries failed to deposit a sh3m down payment to Housing Finance Bank towards the purchase of the houses.

Most of the beneficiaries are in Kampala, Kololo, Entebbe, Jinja, Moroto and Masindi.

Appearing before the public accounts committee on Friday, the of lands ministry permanent secretary, Gabindadde Musoke, said the houses would be re-located to other civil servants.

Gabindadde, however, explained that there were some beneficiaries who had paid, but had not received their land titles.

According to the terms of offer, the beneficiaries were supposed to pay 8% each within one year of offer.
They were also required to deposit a valuation fee of 0.125% of the purchase price. Most of the offers were made in 2006 and January 2007.

The Auditor General’s recent report to Parliament also noted that beneficiaries had not paid up. It advised the accounting officer to cancel the offers whose grace period had expired and have the houses referred back to the pool.
