THE national U-21 netball team yesterday received a sh2.5m bonus package for winning the Africa Championship in Zanzibar.

The Ugandan team beat Ghana, Kenya and Malawi before finally overcoming hosts Tanzania 73-23.

The squad of ten players and two officials were hosted to a luncheon by their leading sponsor, FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa and his Uganda netball federation counterpart Susan Onek in Mengo.

“Netball and football cannot be separated so they have to develop hand-in-hand,” Mulindwa said before promising to offer the team a new kit when they travel for another continental event in September.

Mulindwa is a keen supporter of netball and his school, St. Mary’s Kitende, is a leading netball playing schools in the country.
