A total of 653 students will be awarded diplomas at today's graduation ceremony at the Law Development Centre (LDC). Percy Night Tuhaise, the deputy director in-charge of public relations, said 299 students will graduate under the Postgraduate Bar Course, thus qualifying to become advocates of the High Court.

Of these, 129 are female while 170 are male. The course is a prerequisite before a lawyer can practise law in Uganda. Tuhaise on Wednesday said another 354 students will be awarded the Diploma in Law.

According to the invitation cards sent out to the graduands, President Yoweri Museveni is expected to preside over the ceremony. Notable students on this year’s graduation include former health minister Jim Muhwezi, who completed the bar course last academic year.

However, some of his colleagues, Lt. Gen. Moses Ali and Brig Henry Tumukunde, will miss out after they failed the examinations.
