THE Milton Obote Foundation has donated sh22m to famine victims in the north and northeastern regions. Ignatius Barungi, the board chairman, handed over the cheque to Tom Buruku, the Uganda Red Cross Society chief.

Barungi said the donation followed an appeal for support last month by the humanitarian agency. “We have heard the cries of the victims affected by the famine. We have seen their pictures and seen MPs from the regions weep. We would like the victims of this disaster to know that we are touched and share in their suffering,” Barungi said at the function in Kampala.

The Milton Obote Foundation is a business enterprise linked to the Uganda Peoples’ Congress (UPC) party. Buruku commended the foundation for assisting famine victims.

“We assure you that what we have received will benefit the intended recipients,” Buruku said. Present was UPC party president Miria Obote, the foundation board of trustees’ chairman, Peter Walubiri and the party treasurer, Patrick Mwondha.
