Who is behind these road tolls?
On my way to Kampala from Jinja recently, I joined the northern bypass at Kireka, after seeing other vehicles driving through. Shortly after, I met a barrier and the guards there told me the road was closed. “How come other vehicles are going through?” I asked. “They identified themselves,” the guards said. I realised that the guards were soliciting for a bribe. I gave them sh500 and the barrier was removed. I met five other barriers and did the same. Are these road tolls legal?

Leaders should fight bushfires
Bushfires have become common during this dry season. Many people burn bushes without thinking about the dangers the practice poses to the environment. It is the duty of local leaders to come up with measures to stop the practice. Sometimes the fires spread to people’s homes destroying lives and property.
