Pirir not shaken
- Defence committee vice-chairman Samuel Pirir is never shaken. As the defence and internal affairs Parliament committee met the defence minister Cryspus Kiyonga over allegations of nepotism and imbalance in the army, Makindye East MP Hussein Kyanjo demanded that the generals present the names of UPDF officers, or he walks out of the meeting. But the warrior in Pirir could not stand this. “Who are you to dictate to the committee? Who are you?” This incensed Kyanjo who demanded for an apology. But Pirir stood his ground and the meeting was adjourned.

Nsambu knows it
- State minister for Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Alintuma Nsambu is not afraid to speak out. “I am one of the pioneers of this ministry, I have seen it all, but I am never given a chance to contribute in Parliamentary proceedings yet I have valuable information about our ministry,” he said. Committee chairperson Nathan Nabeta had been seeking answers from ICT minister Aggrey Awori and other junior officials. Nabeta told Nsambu to sort out the matter with his senior minister, Awori.

Human rights strategy
- Unlike other government departments that go to parliament to literally fight for budget increments, the Uganda Human Rights Commission has a different approach. While appearing before the legal and parliamentary committee to plead for more funds, the secretary to the commission, Gordon Mwesigye, repeatedly assured the committee how they needed just the basic minimum, to ensure effective monitoring of the human rights of the people.

Lukwago wonders
- As the Law Development Centre (LDC) managers appeared before the legal and parliamentary affairs committee to plead for their budget proposal, the director, Elijah Wante, said a magisterial area had been approved for LDC so that the students could have practical training. Erias Lukwago asked: “Are you suggesting that we are half-baked because we did not go through these courts?” Wante said the training they had was enough.
