The Police have arrested the suspected leader of the notorious iron-bar hitmen, a gang alleged to have been terrorising the residents in Kampala.

Meddy Nsubuga, alias Kabadiya, is a resident of Sebina zone at Kalerwe, a Kampala suburb.

Nsubuga, 28, and the gang allegedly robbed, injured and killed city dwellers using iron bars (butayimbwa).

The group is also said to have been carrying out attacks using pangas, hammers, knives, stones and logs.

The Kampala Metropolitan deputy Police spokesperson, Henry Kalulu, told journalists at the Central Police Station yesterday, that Nsubuga has been on their wanted list.

“Through our investigations and his friends we had arrested, we managed to get him,” he said.

He said the suspect had five files of cases of robbery and attempted murder.

“Three files are in Kawempe, one in Kira and the murder case file is still in Luwero. The files are ready and he will appear in court as soon as possible,” Kalulu added.

Nsubuga denied the allegations, saying he only bought second-hand phones.
“I bought the phones from some guys but later realised that they had been stolen. I have never robbed or murdered any one,” he said.

Kalulu said another 21 suspected robbers were arrested from various streets of Kampala during night Police operations.

“We found these people with marijuan, knives, hammers and iron bars. They are to appear in court this week,” he said.
