JINJA district headquarters are to be relocated to Buwenge town council to pave way for the creation of a city. “We want to support Jinja municipality to attain city status. Therefore, the district authorities have to relocate to Buwenge town council,” said the district speaker, Agnes Nabirye.

She disclosed that arrangements were underway to construct the new district administration offices. Nabirye made the remarks while addressing the district officials, councillors, the technical staff and residents at Kagoma sub-county headquarters during the budget council meeting on Friday.

“We have given them a reasonable distance so that they can expand. We are also giving a chance to other town councils like Buwenge to develop faster,” Nabirye said.

The district chairperson, Hannington Basakana, said they had an agreement with Wakiso district to borrow funds to help in the construction of the new headquarters.

The Madhvani Group of Companies has also agreed to give 50% of the money needed for constructing the headquarters.

Jinja chief administrative officer Okiror Iporotum said they would start with verification of the plot where the district headquarters will be constructed.

The district passed a budget of sh19b for the next financial year after proposals had been presented.
