MINISTRIES and government departments have to make policies that enhance the creation of the East Africa Community (EAC), a director in the Ministry of East African Community Affairs has said.

Speaking on Friday at a workshop, Edith Kateme said it was now imperative that ministries, departments and authorities evolve strategies with the EAC agenda in mind.

She said whereas some departments had already began by taking part in preparations that would culminate in the establishment of the customs union, the common market and finally the monetary union, others had not.

“It is crucial that government departments identify and innovate new policies and programmes, which are in line with the EAC agenda,” Kateme said.

The workshop was to consider the national development plan thematic paper on the EAC cooperation and integration.

The paper presents the strategic framework of how Uganda will manage the EAC cooperation and integration process.
