MBARARA-Local councils have been advised to involve the community in protecting wetlands and the environment. Robert Bagyenda, the national project coordinator for the International Union for Conservation of Nature in Uganda, made the appeal during a workshop at Pelkana Hotel. The workshop aimed at extending protected wetlands through the community conservation initiative. Bagyenda said lakes Mburo and Nakivale were shrinking because of wetland degradation.
