NORTHERN Uganda could begin to import civil servants from other parts of the country if the current low education in the region continues, Kitgum district chairman John Ogwok has warned.

“Our major challenge is to raise the level of education in our region. Many of us were denied access to education as a result of the over 20 years of insurgency. This makes it difficult for us to compete with other parts of the country,” Ogwok said.

He was commissioning a four-classroom block and a five-stance VIP pitlatrine at Ayuu Anaka Primary School in Palabek Gem sub-county last week.

Ogwok said it was unfortunate that most parents in Acholi had failed to educate their children thinking it was the responsibility of the Government and NGOs.

He noted that the Acholi were proud of their land and its productivity, but added that no meaningful development would take place if people meant to transform the area were not educated.

Pader district vice-chairman Alfred Akena said former internally displaced people needed schools in their villages.
