THE Soroti resident district commissioner, Ben Etonu, has said he will not allow the transfer of the district headquarters of the proposed Serere district to Kasilo county.

“Parliament granted Serere the district status. The headquarters have to remain in Serere,” said Etonu. Both Kasilo and Serere counties constitute Serere district. However, Etonu argued that the headquarters should remain in Serere because it is the people of Serere, who requested for the district.

Etonu was speaking during a fact finding-mission conducted by the parliamentary local government and public service committee last week. The Kasilo County MP, Elijah Okupa, had proposed the location of Serere headquarters in Kasilo because Serere is near the Soroti district headquarters.

However, Okupa’s suggestion was rejected by Serere residents, who called him a traitor.
