THE UPDF is to construct a commercial house in Soroti municipality for its fallen pilot, Capt. Kokas Okure, who died in Abim district. The UPDF 3rd Division spokesman, Capt. Henry Obbo, said the house was to honour Okure’s diligent service.

Obbo said the house, to be built on the deceased’s land at Plot 19, Odeke division in Nakatunya, will comprise a commercial tructure with a residential ouse at the back.

An engineering team from Bombo, led by Maj. Christopher Achellam, on Wednesday visited Okure’s ancestral home in Katakwi, before inspecting the plot in Soroti to establish an appropriate construction site.

Okure’s mother, Basilisa Akwi, told the team that she underwent mistreatment from relatives in Katakwi after the death of her son.

“They confiscated five cattle which my son had left behind and sent me away. I decided to relocate to an incomplete garage in Nakatunya, to avoid conflicts,” Akwi said.

Okure died last February after the helicopter gunship he was piloting crash-landed at Nyakwai in Abim district.

This was after a disarmament operation against the Dodoth warriors in the Morungole mountains in Kaabong district. During the operation, the UPDF recovered 28 guns, 30 magazines, 20 grenades and two binoculars from the warriors.
