A total of 217,358 Senior Four students across the country begin their O’level examinations today.

The Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) spokesperson, Eva Konde, said invigilators and supervisors all over the country have been briefed.

The examination materials have been transferred to Police stations near exam centres.

“We want to deliver all examination papers in time to avoid late deliveries, which slightly hampered the process last year,” she explained.

Konde said new measures have been put in place to ensure that nobody breaches the examination system.

Any candidates involved in malpractices may be refused to continue with the examination, be disqualified and arrested, the examinations body warned.

Candidates will begin the briefing sessions today conducted by teachers in the respective schools and private examination centres.

Geography papers I and II, will be the first examinations to be written on Monday.

All students are expected to reach their examination halls 30 minutes before the start of the examination, ready to be identified and checked.

Students who arrive 15 minutes late will not be allowed to sit the paper.

UNEB has reiterated its warning to candidates, head teachers and parents to guard against unscrupulous people who sell fake examination papers.

Meanwhile, Konde also disclosed that 516,890 pupils will sit their Primary Leaving Examinations on October 30.

This is an increase of over 53,000 pupils who will sit the exams this year, compared to those of last year.

Another set of exams for 97,679 Senior Six candidates starts on November 6.

In a related development, Kampala Auxiliary Bishop Christopher Kakooza has advised candidates against panicking, encouraging them to pray everyday.

He also advised the students to focus on their studies and shun worldly pleasures.

The bishop made the call while presiding over Mass at the Uganda Martyrs Shrine, Namugongo on Wednesday.
