POSTA Uganda has increased its courier rates for international transactions.

Martin Kigozi, the communications officer, explained last week that different new rates would apply on the over 40 countries that the company transacts business, depending on the weight of parcels and the distance to their destinations.

He said increased international EMS (Express Mail Service) rates were aimed at improving service delivery.

“The cost of operation in terms of airline charges is high.

“That has forced us to change the courier rates for international transactions,” said Kigozi.

He said profits would be ploughed back to improve the mail infrastructure.

Half a kilogramme of parcels to the UK will now cost sh45,000, up from sh57,000. Those to the US will go for sh65,000 a half a kilogramme, up from sh55,000. Parcels to South Africa will now cost senders sh55,000, up from sh45,000.

Senders will fork out sh35,000 to parcels to Tanzania, up from sh28,000, while mail to India will cost sh56,000, up from sh55,000.

Mails to Jamaica go for sh65,000, up from sh60,000.
