THE youthful crew of Shafiq Ssemuju and co-driver Leone Ssenyange have not given up hopes of claiming this year's National Rally Championship (NRC) title. The crew lies second with 254.5 points behind Ronald Ssebuguzi and Cedric Buzabo (335).

Ssemuju, who finished fourth in last weekend’s sprint in Lubiri behind winner Ssebuguzi, attributed the relatively poor show to mechanical problems.

“We had gear box failure in the first run and that messed us up,” he said.

“Our fans shouldn’t be worried because that was not a scoring event. We are setting up ourselves for the Festino Cite event that counts on the club rally calendar, before we head for the December event that decides the NRC championship,” Ssenyange charged.

He added that they will use the Festino sprint as a warm up for the final showdown in December.

Ssemuju must win the event and hope that Ssebuguzi fails to finish if he is to claim the title.
