Water and environment minister Maria Mutagamba is irked by forestry officers. Last Monday, she told an international conference on climatic change that she had a big problem with forestry officers.
This was at Speke Resort Munyonyo and it came a few days after the National Forestry Authority (NFA) boss, Damian Akankwasa, was interdicted on the orders of President Yoweri Museveni.
Akankwasa’s woes started from a domestic disagreement with his wife whom he suspected to have stolen sh900m from their home. Although Mutagamba never elaborated, participants were heard whispering that ‘the Akankwasa ghost’ was haunting the NFA.
Director sweats
Government officials who have been despising MPs especially during parliamentary committee proceedings must think twice. Dr. Godfrey Kibuuka, the director for Communications and Broadcasting, almost fainted when MPs on the ICT parliamentary committee told him that he risked being detained if he refused to give them correct answers. On hearing this, the bulky doctor suddenly started sweating and looked as if he had left the bathroom without towelling himself. But this did not save him because he was later detained. Kibuuka could not tell the MPs the amount of money that was agreed on to pay for Optic Fibre cables and the MPs were infuriated.

Kampala Mayor Hajji Nasser Sebaggala is crazy about Bobi Wine. No wonder he calls himself ‘Mazzi Mawanvu’ (powerful) which is one of Bobi’s songs. Seya, as Sebaggala is commonly known, has ‘Ghetto man from Kamwokya, another song by Bobi Wine as his ring tone on his phone. When asked why he only keeps his home neat when Kampala city is rotting with filth he quipped: “Do people expect me to clean their toilets? Is my toilet dirty? They must learn to love a clean environment.â€
Mr Mayor, you should teach them that.
Ahabwe’s message
Local government state minister Godfrey Pereza Ahabwe has a shrewd way of communicating with his constituents. The Rubanda East MP who knows that he has many opponents, was recently seen cruising in his monster official vehicle on the Kabale-Kisoro highway with a flag flying on the car as if he is the President.
Ministers rarely drive themselves and have no flags on their vehicles. So the rural folk must now have some idea about how powerful Ahabwe is.
