The Ministry of Health has not yet dismissed the principal accountant, Nestor Machumbi Gasasira, as had been recommended by the Inpector General of Government.

Dr. Sam Zaramba, the acting Permanent Secretary in the health ministry declined to comment on the issue. “All accounting officers are answerable to the Accountant General so you better talk to him for any comment on the matter,” he said.

However, when contacted, Gustavio Bwoch, the Accountant General, denied that he was solely responsible for effecting the disciplinary action.

The IGG, Raphael Baku, in a letter on October 12 directed that Gasasira be dismissed over false declaration of his wealth. Gasasira had deposited a total of sh563m on his bank accounts, whose sources he failed to explain.

The report detailing findings of the investigations into his income, assets and liabilities by the IGG also indicates that whereas he directly deposited sh324m on his various bank accounts, he deposited another sh239m on M/s Sagimex bank account, and also failed to explain the source of the money.

The IGG recommended that URA audits the trading activities of M/s Sagimex to recover all taxes due to the Government.

The IGG also wants Gasasira barred from holding public office, whether elective or appointive, for the next five years.
