By 7:00pm, all freshers had taken their seats at Mbarara University Inn, awaiting the guest of honour, Wilson Tumwine, the mayor of Mbarara Municipality, who arrived at 9.00pm. This was at the utl-sponsored Fresher’s Ball at Mbarara University of Science and Technology 2009/2010.

Then it was time for meals and behold, there was chaos as students could not wait for their turn. It was the Police that restored order. After the food, they could not wait to see the artistes utl had lined up for them.

As the multitudes of Mbarara-based upcoming singers performed, impatient students kept demanding for the established acts. The pressure eased when Amaisha Dancers came on to stage. Shortly after, ex-Dream Galz singer Shana, clad in a skimpy dress, wowed the students with her sexy dance antics and songs like Genda Okole.

But the real excitement kicked in with the appearance of Grace Nakimera. She put up an enthralling performance of her best songs like Anfukula, Sukuma and the monstrous Kawonawo.

Sweet Kid was next on stage and as usual, drew the crowd in with his energetic performance. At one point he danced with a girl who joined him on to help him sing the song Sirina Yo’mulala.

As he concluded his performance, he invited singer, Bebe Cool to join him for their duet Kiba Kibi. Cool, who was the biggest crowd pleaser of the night, from the deafening cheers he received, rocked the students till past 1:00am. He also handed over a cheque of sh500,000 to a student who became the lucky winner in a utl draw. Others won utl T-shirts, phones and utl airtime.
