Water, power users unite
KAMPALA-Water and electricity consumers have formed an association to fight for their rights. Robert Ssegonja, the chairman of the Water and Electricity Consumers Association, said on Monday they intended to initiate dialogue with National Water and Sewerage Corporation and UMEME on how to improve relations with their customers, especially with regard to billing. Stephen Mugagga, the operations and finance director, said a survey had revealed that UMEME staff were perceived by customers to be more corrupt than water employees.

Land not for govt - minister
KAMPALA-The land for Kireka Home for the Disabled does not belong to the Government, the gender, labour and social development minister has revealed. Recently, the parliamentary committee on gender and community development tasked the ministry to explain the whereabouts of the land title. MPs investgated circumstances under which the original land title for the home of the mentally handicapped children at Kireka went missing and discovered that a private developer wanted to buy the land. The ministry clarified that the home for the disabled is not a government institution but of an NGO collaborating with the gender ministry.

Korean NGO helps Nsangi
MPIGI-A South Korean non-governmental organisation called Saemuel Undong, has initiated a number of communitybased projects. The organisation, which is working in collaboration with civic leaders and Christian organisations, have started projects in Nsangi sub-county. They are a bakery, a water and sanitation project, tailoring, fish farming and piggery. Local leaders have been sponsored for training in South Korea for exposure to different technologies.
