THE government Chief Whip, Daudi Migereko, has refuted reports that the Government is interfering with investigations into the CHOGM activities and expenditure.

Migereko was speaking at a meeting with Kamuli district leaders at the Youth Centre on Monday.

“It was alleged by Nandala Mafabi, the PAC (Public Accounts Committee) chairperson, that the Government is interfering in investigations of the committee in CHOGM activities and expenditures but I would like to assure you that for us as NRM and as a party, we are not interfering at all,” Migereko said.

“I think the problem was that our NRM members, who were not being allowed to have a say in the deliberations, felt there was need to consult with us, particularly my office, to see what role they could play and I think they have been able to sort out the problem. It was just an issue of methods of work.”

Migereko said PAC members held a workshop at Jinja Nile Resort Hotel and invited the Auditor General to get his view about the probe report. He said the issues raised there were noted by PAC chief Nandala Mafabi.

“If anything arises (in the committees), our duty is to give them support,” Migereko explained.

He urged NRM district leaders to find ways of sustaining themselves through income-generating projects. He said this would make it easier for them to popularise the Bonna Bagaggawale (prosperity-for-all) programme when they are role models in their areas.
