UGANDA Revenue Authority (URA) is hosting the inaugural Africa Tax Administration Forum starting today at Serena Hotel in Kampala. Allen Kagina, the URA boss, on Monday said the 5-day forum will focus on issues such as the promotion of economic development, accountability and capacity building with a view to strengthen tax administration.
One pressing issue facing many African countries is how to embark on a path that will free them from donor dependence to finance their budgets, Kagina said.
“We want to free African countries from their dependence on foreign assistance and indebtedness,†Kagina said.
The forum, to be officially opened by President Yoweri Museveni, will be attended by African tax commissioners and senior officials from about 25 countries.
