FUFA delegates in Zone 4 have launched a fundraising drive to bail out cash trapped Arua Central Football Club.

Zone chairman Mike Leti said the players had lost morale and concentration because they had gone for months without salary.

“We (delegates) have met and agreed to make contributions to help the club stay in the super league. We need to pay salaries and task the players to win. The problem is that people, who would have helped are distancing themselves from the team,” Leti said over the weekend. He is also the club chairman.

Arua Central was promoted to the Uganda Super League this season but has since secured only a win and a draw in eight matches of the league. They are tucked at the bottom of the 18-team competition.

The club has strengthened their coaching staff by bringing in Haruna Mawa, who stepped in after Charles Leti quit following a disagreement with the officials.

FUFA zone four delegates from West Nile districts Arua, Nebbi, Koboko, Moyo and Adjumani will make personal contributions towards the club and also ask their respective district associations to share financial obligations of the club. Leti did not mention how much they intend to raise.

Meanwhile, Jinja based Victors FC has parted ways with their Kenyan coach Rashid Khamis Shedu less than a month after he assumed the job. Although club officials said Shedu had taken a break to attend to domestic responsibilities in Kenya, a source close to him said that they failed to agree on crucial contractual obligations.

Former veteran Victors player Paul Mukatabala is now in charge of the team.
