UPDF soldiers shot dead 13 warriors and captured two during failed raids in Kaabong and Moroto districts respectively. UPDF 3rd Division spokesperson Capt. Henry Obbo said on Friday in Moroto that the army had encountered warriors during their raiding spree and shot them dead.

Obbo said Lokope Lokol, one of the raiders, was captured while he returned from a failed raid in Katakwi on Wednesday. He said the army also captured one Jie warrior, identified as Lodoo, with his gun after a failed raid in Kaabong.

“The two will be court-martialed on charges of unlawful possession of firearms or armed robbery,” Obbo said. The UPDF has of late taken tougher action against the raiders.

In Irriri sub-county, three raiders were killed on Sarturday in separate incidents after they shot dead a UPDF soldier on his way home in Lomarotoit village.

The soldiers trailed the thugs and killed them in Coli Coli village, recovering one gun and household property they had looted in the street children returnee camp in Lomarotoit village.

In Kaabong, Obbo added, 10 Jie warriors were killed after they attempted to steal over 200 livestock and fought the UPDF soldiers who intervened.

The Jie warriors, specifically, had started raiding Kaabong, Moroto and Nakapiripirit on a daily basis, but have been weakened over the past three weeks.
