JOSEPHINE Namayega missed two free throws at the end of regular-time to hand the KCC Leopards a 66-65 win over A1 Challenge in Game 4 of the MTN-FUBA women playoff final series.

As a result the Leopards have taken a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series, and just a win away to the national basketball league title.

A1 need a miracle to avoid losing in the playoff finals for the fourth year in a row.

If A1 go on to lose these finals, which could happen on Wednesday when the two sides meet for Game 5, they will look back to the dramatic manner of their loss yesterday.

A1 were 65-64 up with 17 seconds left in the fourth quarter when they returned from a time-out to make the inbound. But seconds later, Flavia Okecho intercepted Betty Namukasa’s pass at the half-way line, going on to lay up and put the Leopards 66-65 in front.

However, Okecho fouled Namayega at the end of the fourth quarter, sending the A1 guard to the line where she could have either won the game or sent it to overtime. But she failed to do either, handing the victory to the Leopards.

The victors’ Miriam Hamala net a team-high 14, Caroline Nantalo 13 and Miriam Birungi 12.
