THE national HIV/AIDS Prevention Award winners ceremony has been postponed from today to later this year.

The awards were meant to recognise people who have helped their communities in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Beatrice Rwakimari, the chairperson of the parliamentary committee on HIV/AIDS, who instituted the awards with The New Vision, said the judges asked for more time due to the high number of entries.

Rwakimari added that President Yoweri Museveni, who was expected to preside over the ceremony, is also out of the country.

Museveni travelled to Trinidad and Tobago last week for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

Rwakimari, who is the MP for Ntugamo, explained that the awards were instituted to revamp the political commitment against HIV/AIDS.

“We also want to revamp prevention as an important strategy in fighting HIV/AIDS,” she explained.
The project, which started in September, was slated to end at the end of November.

The New Vision deputy features editor, Lillian Agasha, who coordinated the project, said over 1,700 nominations were received.
