IT was the worst possible day for Sandra Kabongoyi, Uganda’s only girl in this year’s face of Africa model talent search. It was the last day of Boot Camp, and she had survived two weeks where 11 girls had seen their dreams of a stellar model career come to an end.

It was the last day in Mombasa, and everybody was packed and going home. Only for her, she would not be returning. And it was also her mother’s birthday.

“But I knew something was up when the day before Jan Malan (one of the judges) asked me how old I was,” she said in an interview with the City Beat Magazine.

“I would have already made 25 by the time the finals would be held in February, so I think they made a decision based on that.”

The last we saw of Sandra, during the series shown on M-Net on Saturday and Sunday, she was at a photo shoot for the Face of Africa calendar on top of Fort Jesus, Mombasa.

Both the photographer and the stylist commented how she photographed easily, and how she took instructions readily.

But someone had to leave, and Sandra, together with Jasmine from Namibia, were evicted. The last 12 girls will make up the Face of Africa 2010 calendar.

But it is not over yet, as only 10 girls will make it to the finals in Nigeria in February of next year.

This week we will be shown what happened at the Swahili Fashion Week, only in its second year but the only remaining Fashion Week in East Africa.
That was also the time when Naomi Campbell made an appearance.
