TEENAGE rally ace Shafiq Ssemuju is the 2009 Clubman Rally champion. Ssemuju, in a Subaru N10, clocked 11 minutes 39 seconds to win the Champion of Champions Sprint at Entebbe Botanical Gardens on Boxing Day.

The youngster beat Godfrey Lubega by one second to win the sprint and capture the Clubman Rally Championship (CRC) title after amassing 139.5 points, seven clear of his challenger Nasser Mutebi who was third in the event.

Lubega posted the fastest time in the first run while Mutebi was quickest in the second run but none of them won the race.

“The track was slippery but we went off big time in an attempt to make up for lost time. However the best man took it. It was a fair contest,” Mutebi commented.

Joseph Kamya, Arthur Tibashobooka and Omar Mayanja were fourth, fifth and sixth in the event that was run under a heavy downpour.

Newcomer Duncan Mubiru, driving Ronald Ssebuguzi’s Mitsubishi Evo4, finished ninth.

The sprint, organised by Southern Motor Club, was the final event on the 2009 Motorsport calendar.
