TOORO Queen Mother Best Kemigisa has asked the people of Tooro to appreciate her role in bringing up the young king (Omukama) Oyo Nyimba Rukiidi IV and not disrespect her.

Kemigisa said her biggest role has been to ensure the proper growth of the king from infancy. King Oyo, who was installed at the age of three after his father Patrick Olimi Kaboyo’s death, is now aged 15.

“Some people have used indecent language on radio stations around Kabarole to address me. They refer to me as that woman, “Omukazi” with curses. But I want to tell them they are instead giving me blessings,” she said.

Kemigisa was speaking during a meeting of the Babiito clan members of Kisomoro sub-county in Bunyangabu county on Sunday. Oyo accompanied by the Omuhikirwa, (Prime Minister) Stephen Irumba, and Kabarole district chairman Michael Mugisa, attended the meeting that took place at the home of Edson Kaliba.

Kemigisa urged the people to use proper channels in the kingdom structures to advise her when mistakes are made instead of attacking her on radio.

She called upon elders to help resolve disputes. “You should love the kingdom because you are the people that supported its restoration. I was here when the people who wanted the kingdom back voted for it with a ‘Yes’ while those opposed said ‘No,” she said.

The Tooro kingdom Parliament last week sacked three regents; Isaya Kalya, Zaveriyo Byabagambi and Prof. Oswald Ndolerire for ‘disrespecting the Queen Mother and failing to execute their duties’
