Inventive Kagonyera
PROF. Mondo Kagonyera has come a long way to get to the top job at Makerere University. He seems to have known the former chancellor, Premier Apolo Nsibambi, very well. The two worked together at different levels. From the Premier’s farm as a vet doctor, Kagonyera came for his boss’ seat at Makerere. “Prof. Kagonyera used to treat my animals at my farm in Buloba. He is imaginative and effective. He is a perfect replacement for me,” Nsibambi said. In approval, Kagonyera beamed all through Nsibambi’s speech, a rare gesture from a man who is always serious and occasionally smiles. Good luck Kagonyera as you take over the oldest university in the country.

Governor Mutebile?
Life and regimes change quickly. It is good that in Uganda, things have changed for the better in comparison to past regimes. Makerere University vice-chancellor Prof. Livingstone Luboobi may be excused when he refers to Tumusiime Mutebile, the Governor of Bank of Uganda, as ‘Governor of Uganda’. This was during the installation of the new MUK chancellor last week. Wherever Luboobi mentioned the ‘Governor of Uganda…’ murmurs would sweep through the gathering.

Boda boda RDC
Kawempe resident division commissioner Edward Ssekabanja’s love for Boda bodaS is immense. He has on several occasions been seen moving around town on boda bodas. The reason for his love for boda bodas is not yet clear, although some pundits argue that Ssekabanja uses them because they are fast. Perhaps this is true since he is always at the scene whenever there is chaos in his division. Hmm, one wonders what would happen to him if boda bodas were banned from Kampala!

Courageous PM

Bunyoro Prime Minister Emmanuel Aliba Kiiza is a no nonsense man when it comes to people who practice witchcraft. Kiiza recently asked the Banyoro to report to him medicine men who terrorise them. This was during a thanksgiving ceremony for Emmy Allio, the deputy director of External Security Organisation, in Nyantonzi sub-county, Masindi district. Residents claimed they feared putting up permanent structures for fear of being bewitched.
