Moses Kipsiro’s strong start to the 2008 athletics season has earned him the uganda telecom-USPA sportsman of the month of January award.

It was Kipsiro’s second award in the space of six months after he took the same in August last year.

Kipsiro, who was nominated for successfully defending the Belfast International cross-country last month collected 775 votes to beat professional boxer Peter ‘Boyz Boyz’ Ssemwogerere and KCC striker Brian Omwony.

Kipsiro, an All Africa Games gold medallist, is also a front-runner for the 2007 USPA sports personality of the year alongside Rugby Cranes, the national cricket team, footballer David Obua and female rally driver Susan Muwonge.

USPA executive and sponsors utl plan to crown the winner of the annual award next month.

Ssemwogerere made the list following his 10th round knockout of Italian champion Fedele Ballusci to claim the IBF international light welterweight belt in Rome.

Omwony’s hattrick in KCC’s 6-1 win over Nalubaale and the goal in their 1-1 draw with Maroons earned him the nomination.

The scribes commended rally driver Jas Mangat, UPDF road relay team and the rugby chairman’s cup champions Pirates for excellent performances.
