THE First Lady, Janet Museveni, has pledged Government’s commitment to reduce the maternal mortality rate.
According to a statement from State House, she made the remarks while meeting former Prime Minister of Norway, Kjell Magne and former Irish President, Mary Robinson.
The maternal mortality rate in Uganda is estimated at about 500 deaths per 100,000 live births. To meet the Millenium Development Goals’ target, Uganda must reduce maternal mortality rate to 131 deaths per 100,000 live births by 2015.
Mrs Museveni expressed her optimism that as more Ugandans get educated through UPE and USE, their lifestyle is expected to change.
