EDITOR — Recently, the Kampala Regional Police Commander, Edward Ochom, acted with valour in demonstrating his respect for human life and the law when he stopped Police officers from arbitrarily shooting rioters at Kisekka Market.

This was a classic display of leading by example. This is not to take away from those people who have over the years contributed selflessly to our country with some having sacrificed with their blood during our internal strife and the 1979 liberation war.

However, the police commander’s gallant act glaringly came out in the public light and it would be in order if the Kisekka Market vendors with other citizen’s support and the Uganda Police organised an honorary award in his recognition of his behaviour and to all those that will follow in the years to come.

This will reinforce a culture of respect for the law and value for human life.
