KAMPALA - Nation Television (NTV) has given out prizes to the winners of the three-week ‘watch and win’ promotion. The winners yesterday received their prizes at NTV offices at Serena Conference Centre. NTV’s brand manager, Rachel Wandia and sales manager, Antony Lunalo, handed over the prizes. The overall winner, Yvone Komughisa, walked away with a 21-inch television set and a home theatre system. Other winners were Clare Kobusingye, Mariam Kachama and Rosana Murunde, who all got 21-inch TV sets. Lunalo said the promotion,which ended on March 3, aimed at rewarding the customers for tuning to the TV station. Wandia promised better programmes.

Kashillingi suit in balance

KAMPALA - A magistrate at Buganda Road Court has threatened to dismiss the case against former presidential legal aide Hussein Kashillingi, over the slow pace of the prosecution team. “I am giving prosecution the last adjournment in this matter. If they do not bring witnesses in the next hearing, I will dismiss the case,” warned Sarah Mponye. Kahillingi is facing charges of abuse of office for allegedly demanding and receiving sh256m from Dr. Mohammed Kasasa Buwule. The money was reportedly to assist Kashillingi process a land sale agreement with the Government in respect of plots in Mutungo-Luzira.

Priest jailed for life
ARUSHA - The Appeals Court of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda on Wednesday sentenced a former Roman Catholic priest, Athanase Seromba, to life imprisonment for his role in the 1994 genocide. The ruling quashed the 15-year jail term that was handed to him in 2006.The court was convinced that the priest committed genocide and crimes against humanity when he ordered a bulldozer to destroy a church in Nyange, where about 1,500 Tutsis had sought refuge, justice Mohamed Shahabudden ruled.

MP Kyanjo summoned
KAMPALA - The Buganda Road Court has summoned Hussein Kyanjo, the Makindye West MP, over charges of sedition. The magistrate, Susan Kanyange, on Wednesday ordered Kyanjo to appear in the court on March 17 at 9:00am. Kyanjo is accused of making a seditious statement during a talk-show on CBS radio on October 24. He is also accused of promoting sectarianism on the same radio.

Kofi Annan to attend meet

KAMPALA - Former United Nations secretary general Kofi Annan is expected to attend the Zain Group’s conference that starts today at Munyonyo. President Yoweri Museveni is scheduled to open the meeting.
