OVER 10 solar panels have been stolen from Kagadi Hospital in Kibaale district.

According to the medical superintendent, Dr. George Bateganya, the head of the security guards told him that the panels were probably stolen on Wednesday night from the roof of the laboratory building at the outpatients department.

As a result, he added, the laboratory cannot operate when power goes off, putting the lives of patients in danger.

This brings the number of panels that have disappeared from the hospital to over 60 since 1999, according to the findings of a committee that investigated the losses last year. Early this year, over 10 panels were stolen from the hospital. The Police recovered a few but no suspect was arrested.

The CID chief, Micheal Ogwal, said the thugs broke into the premises at around midnight and cut a small hole through the fence from which they accessed the building.

He added that two guards, Raymond Kirunda and Robert Aliganyira, who were on duty that night, had been arrested.
