EDITOR—For the last three years, residents of Mugongo village in Kyengera parish, Wakiso have been struggling in vain to get piped water. In 2005, our leaders and officials from the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), mobilised us to register and pay for water services at the Nateete office.

I was one of the people who paid for the connection and filled forms that were allegedly kept in the ‘Mugongo file’.

Some officials from the Nateete office moved through our village to purportedly ‘survey’ the area and gave us false promises that our taps would soon have water.

But later, we were told that our problem was the size of the water pipes and inadequate pressure to deliver water to our village!

There is nothing to suggest that the problem will be solved. So where does that leave the so-called Mugongo file at the Nateete office? What happened to our payments? Are there any plans to boost the pressure so that we can get water in the near future?

The last time I tried to raise these questions with the Nateete office, someone at the reception asked me whether there was a minister or senior army officer residing in our village! What a cheek! Can the NWSC make good its promise?
